In Iceland, books are gifted and exchanged on Christmas Eve and you spend the rest of the night reading. People generally take their books to bed along with some hot chocolate. How cozy and wonderful does that sound? Iceland publishes more books per capita than any other country, and new books are typically published only during the Christmas season. The frenzy is called JOLABOKAFLOD, which means Christmas Book Flood!
We’re putting an Albion spin on Jolabokaflod and turning it in to our own kind of book celebration. After students have read a total of 600 minutes, tracking their minutes in BEANSTACK, they will be entered in to a drawing. Students selected in the drawing will choose a book from our book vending machine, but it is a book they will give away to a friend! Ms. Rees will wrap up the chosen book and bring it to the chosen friend during class.
Additionally, all students who have achieved the goal of reading 600 minutes between December 9-18 will be able to come to a hot cocoa bar that will be set up in the library on December 19.
We hope you will celebrate Jolabokoflod with us this year!
