Mike Lowery is a New-York-Times bestselling Illustrator who has worked on dozens of books for children and adults, including Random Illustrated Facts and The Everything Awesome series from Scholastic books.
Mike will be teaching students his unique and fun approach to research, as well as presenting tutorials on creative writing and (of course) sketching.
Albion students have been incorporating lessons with a Mike Lowery-esque approach in their various classes as a lead-up to this exciting day, incorporating things like fact-filled infographics, illustrated maps, and story boards into classes ranging from science to ELA to history and music.
After his visit on March 2, Albion will be taking the entire school (yes, you read that correctly), to The Living Planet Aquarium on March 3 where students will learn from the zookeepers in up-close encounters. With sketch pads in hand, they will use Mike’s drawing lessons from the previous day as they study the animals and sketch what they see and discover at the aquarium.
They sketches will then be used in a follow-up science lesson where students will be researching one specific animal in order to produce an infographic one-sheet on that special species.
We are so excited for this fun-filled and educational couple of days! Stay tuned for more details and the resulting science and art products!
