Championship Debate

Albion debaters competed in the Championship debate tournament on April 27th at Mount Jordan Middle School. Here are the students who placed in the top 20% of the hundreds of debaters who competed.

Policy Debate: 

  • FIRST PLACE Team (and qualified for state) – Gary Lhynakis and Charlie Peterson 
  • FIRST PLACE Speaker Award – Argo Tar
  • 2nd Place Team (and qualified for state) – James Sorenson and Oli Pohlman 
  • 3rd Place Team (and qualified for state) – Marcus Broderick and Lincoln Wong 
  • 4th Place –  Will Stanworth 
  • 5th Place – Jaxon Haradin 

Lincoln-Douglas Debate: 

  • FIRST PLACE (and qualified for state) – Neve Chamberlain 
  • Top 20 % (and qualified for state) – Sophia Bergstrom 
  • Top 20 % (and qualified for state) – Zach Crandall
  • Top 20% – Greyson Bills

Oratory Speaking: 

Top 20% (and qualified for state) 

  • Bridget Smit 
  • Ethan Lockhart

Extemporaneous Speaking: 

Top 20 % (and qualified for state) – Chase Rosen

Additionally: 

  • Oli Pohlman won the MVP award for being Albion’s most successful overall debater in his 3 semesters of debate. 
  • Noah Thor won the Coach’s award for being the debater with the most commitment, determination, and perseverance. 
  • Oli Pohlman, Will Sorenson, and Haydin Waite were also recognized for their commitment to debate. Since they’ve each chosen to take debate class 3 separate times, they were awarded a special 3-year debater award.
